Keyboard Problems We Fix

The most common issues we see through the door.

Keys Not Working

Some keys register, others don't. Usually a failing keyboard matrix. A full keyboard replacement sorts it. We test every key before handing it back.

Liquid Spill

Spilled tea, coffee, or water on your keyboard? Turn it off and bring it in. We clean the internals and replace the keyboard before corrosion sets in.

Sticky Keys

Keys that press but don't come back up, or feel gummy. Crumbs, dust, or sticky residue under the keys. Sometimes a clean fixes it, sometimes a new keyboard is needed.

Broken Keycaps

Snapped off a keycap and lost the hinge mechanism? We can sometimes replace individual keys, but for most models a full keyboard replacement is more reliable.

Questions About Laptop Keyboard Repair

Sometimes, if it's just the keycap that's broken and the mechanism underneath is fine. But individual keycaps are hard to source for most models, and often the whole keyboard is more cost-effective. We'll tell you both options and let you decide.

Often yes. If the spill was recent, turn it off, don't try to dry it with heat, and bring it in straight away. We clean the internal components and replace the keyboard. If the liquid reached the motherboard, there may be additional damage, but we'll assess that for free.

Most laptop keyboard replacements start at £50 including the keyboard and fitting. Some ultra-thin models with backlit keyboards cost more because the part is more expensive. We'll identify your exact model and give you a fixed price.

This is usually a failing keyboard matrix or a damaged ribbon cable connection. It's rarely a software issue. A keyboard replacement fixes it. Sometimes it's the motherboard keyboard connector that's damaged, which is a more complex repair, but we'll diagnose it properly first.

If we have the keyboard in stock, about 30-45 minutes. If we need to order one, typically 2-3 working days for delivery. Some ultra-thin laptops with riveted keyboards take longer because the old one has to be carefully peeled off and the new one bonded in place.
