MacBooks from 2015 to 2019 use the butterfly switch keyboard, which is known for sticky and repeating keys. Apple acknowledged this with a repair programme. If your MacBook is from this era and has keyboard issues, it's likely the butterfly mechanism failing.
MacBook keyboard replacements start at £90. The cost depends on the model year. For butterfly keyboard models, the entire top case including battery often needs replacing, which costs more. We'll identify your model and give you a fixed price.
On scissor-switch keyboards (2020 onwards), individual key replacement is sometimes possible. On butterfly keyboards (2015-2019), individual key replacement is very difficult and often doesn't last. We'll advise whether a single key fix is viable or if a full keyboard replacement is the better option.
We can try cleaning under the keys first, which sometimes fixes sticky keys on scissor-switch models. On butterfly keyboards, cleaning rarely works long-term because the mechanism traps debris. If cleaning doesn't fix it, a keyboard replacement is the reliable solution.
